Named for the widow in Luke 21:1-4 who gave her last two coins in blessing to others, Widow’s Mite Offerings are given every fifth Sunday to a worthy cause.
You can give to a Widow’s Mite offering by sending a check to Broad St. UMC (501 E. Broad St. 43215) memoed to the appropriate cause.
The May 29 offering goes towards Refugee Resettlement, a ministry at Broad St. UMC focused on supporting the transition of Iraqi immigrants to the United States and Columbus, OH.
From Emily Schornstein, Refugee Resettlement Chair:
Each 5th Sunday we have an opportunity to contribute to a specific mission of our church through our Widow’s Mite offering. On May 29th the offering will be designated for Refugee Resettlement. This money is used when other channels have been exhausted and a refugee has an immediate need. It has been used to pay utilities, rent (one time), tuition for ESL classes at CSCC, car insurance and overdue bills. This offering is the total amount used for this purpose for the whole year. Please give generously.
